This year, for the first time, the University of Innsbruck called for proposals for the Early-Stage Funding Program, which is aimed at PhD students and young postdocs.

Out of nearly 70 submitted proposals, we were able to get two of the 36 granted projects for our group.

These grants will allow us to further investigate two highly relevant aspects of insect breeding:

  • Decrypting the microbial community on the egg surface of Black Soldier Flies (Hermetia illucens, L.) and its origin using 16s Amplicon Metabarcoding

  • Frass for gas: pre-treatment of industrial insect breeding residues for anaerobic digestion
